Land of the Rhino, Gharial,
Bear, & Tiger.
Completely wild and with unimaginable biodiversity, safaris at UNESCO World Heritage Site Chitwan National Park, Nepal, are bliss for Nature and Wildlife enthusiasts. With exceedingly rare species such as Greater One Horned Rhinoceros - 600 individuals - and the Gharial - 100 individuals - Chitwan has a great conservation heritage with armed soldiers guarding the Rhino and all wildlife therein, along with the careful captive-breeding of Gharials.
Life in the forests here is as dependent on the unpredictable Rapti and Narayani Rivers, which support the ever-depleting alluvial grasslands, as it is on today’s human intervention.
Chitwan is a diverse habitat with variations in altitude ranging from 60m to 1600m above sea level, with well-wooded subtropical Sal Forests, Riverine Forests, Evergreen Mixed Forests, High Altitude Chir-pine Forests, Tall Grasslands, Marshes of Oxbow Lakes, River ecosystems and Hilly Terrain.
It is no wonder that it has been a cradle of life for so many plant and animal species. Over 550 Bird species, 68 Mammal species, 150 Butterfly species, 126 fish species, 56 Reptile species and 236 plant species currently recorded in the Park – it is truly fascinating.
